Hi %recipient.firstname%,

The 23rd Olympic Winter Games start in a little over two weeks from now on Friday, February 9, 2018. They take place in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Every two years, the start of the Olympic Games is signalled by the arrival of the Olympic torch, a symbolic flame that is carried from Olympia in Greece to the site of the games.

The torch relay began on October 24, 2017 in Olympia. After 32 stops in Greece, the torch arrived in Athens on October 31. From there, it was transported by plane to Incheon, near Seoul.

In South Korea, 7500 runners travel through every region of the counrty in 101 days, covering a distance of 2018 km (1254 miles, but the number of kilometres is more meaningful). The flame arrives in Pyeongchang on February 9, 2018. For more details on the torch relay journey, visit the official website.

To take part in the excitement around this big sports event, I show you four ways to create an olympic torch.

The first project uses a paper plate, and the flame is represented with tissue paper.

The second olympic torch is simpler and may be better suited for younger children. The little platter at the base of the flame is optional.

The two projects above can be used in a (safe) torch parade as part of a sports competition.

The third torch is better suited to be displayed on a wall. This project uses the finger painting technique. The video proposes two variants, and the document contains two different patterns for the base of the torch.

If you prefer activities with an end product that you can eat, here is a recipe for a cupcake in the shape of an olympic flame. Perfect for refuelling your energy after a demanding sports activity.
