Hi %recipient.firstname%,

Tangram is a game that was invented in China and known in the West since the early 19th century. It consists of 7 pieces: five triangles, a square and a parallelogram, that together can form a big square.

The game of tangram can help children recognize geometric shapes and understand concepts such as symmetry, congruence, right angles, acute and obtuse angles.

You can make many geometric or figurative shapes with the seven tangram pieces. The free document that accompanies this video gives a few examples (with solutions), but I think that the most creative application is to let the children create their own shapes.

There are other educational games about geometric shapes on the Animaplates website. Like for example this document that contains templates for over 20 geometric shapes, that you can use to make puzzles on wooden sticks.

It includes templates for the following shapes: square, circle, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, decagon, rhombus, parallelogram, trapezoid, ellipse, oval, heart, star, cross, crescent, arrow, annulus, semi-circle, kite, irregular polygon.

In addition to having free access to the geometric puzzle templates I mentioned above, you can also download several printables on the same theme: a crossword puzzle, a quiz on the names of simple geometric shapes, a sudoku of shapes, a directed colouring exercise with additions and subtractions (numbers from 1 to 6), and a shape matching game.
